Welcome

NCCBS was originally founded in 1864 as Northern Counties Orphan Institution. It ran children’s homes for boys and girls. Once the homes closed the land was sold. The funds raised from that sale now provides an income from which our grants are made.

Registered Charity 219696.

What type of Grants do we provide

NCCBS can offer grants to young people under the age of 18 who either live or go to school in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Cumbria, Durham, Teesside, Greater Manchester, Humberside, Cleveland, Yorkshire Lancashire and Cheshire. Grants are normally of educational in nature but can cover such things as school fees, transport, uniform and equipment, tutoring and sports fees.

Grants are assessed on the basis of financial educational and social need. Our grants are modest and often made in conjunction with other charities, school bursary funds and support from family members. laptops and other equipment

History

We were originally founded in 1867 as an orphanage in Jesmond (The Nothern Counties Orphan Institution) housing boys at a property on West Clayton Street and girls on the site now known as Princess Mary Court.

The building was requisitioned at the start of the Second World War and our purpose broadenned to be for…

the benefit of children who are in need through sickness, disability or other causes and who are resident in the northern counties with a preference for children who are orphans

The buildings were converted into flats in the 1990s but our society and registered charity still stands.
